Back on the river for the drive to an Indiana state park called Clifty Falls. We all loved the ferry ride. Tom almost had Si convinced that we were going to drive our car straight into the river and float across, pontoon boat style (he wanted to believe it anyway).
The scenic route is our favorite.
Hiking in the woods was the best part of this two day/two night stop. We were proud that we hiked every trail and saw all the waterfalls. Spring was popping out all over the woods- lots of bird sightings, rocks to climb, moss growing, mud to pick our way through, rocks to throw in streams, quiet and fresh air, fossil rock discoveries, tiny flowerlings. Ah lovely.
A classic diner called Hinkleys in a nearby town. Reminded us of Jess’s- but with good fish sandwiches, hamburgers, and onion rings instead of hotdogs!
Madison was such a pretty town- beautiful old houses. It felt like a really genteel Southern small town. The flowers were so pretty and we enjoyed the river again as well as a little antiquing.
Tom made Silas’s day by letting him drive the car in a quiet campground in the park. He was in heaven. The girls go to try too and couldn’t get enough. We got to see a lot of rabbits and deer as we drove around slowly.
The indoor pool at the lodge was also a huge kid favorite!
