Around the House

While we are focused on good-byes and packing, it’s still the kids’ summer vacation, so we’re trying to have some kid fun too! Here are some of the little things going on around the house. I love how the kids have had to get more creative with their play since we’ve packed up most of their toys!

The girls made a dollhouse in a cardboard box with lots of random trash and recycling from the move (my favorites are the plant in the toothpaste lid and the bandage hammock).  They were inspired by the homemade dollhouse in Hitty, the book the three of us have been reading aloud together about an old doll and all her adventures with different owners over 100 years. We love it!

Silas had a fun and messy time making smash balls (cotton balls covered in flour paste and baked).

I loved how he sat in front of the oven waiting for them to finish. How do you like my stove by the way- propped shut with a chair, but still open!

Of course, the best part was smashing them with a hammer! I would say this project is a waste of ingredients and stove gas unless you are moving and will have all that leftover anyway! 🙂 Silas did have a great time with it though.

One morning, he and I had fun getting carried away with all the leftover fingerpaint.

Claire’s idea for Tom’s birthday was to make him a weekly Sunday newspaper. He got the first one yesterday- it includes neighborhood news, comics, a weekly Bible verse and sports.

Silas had his last buddy time/sleepover with Brennan. He’s going to miss this guy!

And the chain gets shorter and the house keeps getting emptier.

DSC_0182Five pieces are finalized, five to go! (actually, it looks like we’ll end up with nine total).

And not around the house….

Last night we went out to a Middle Eastern restaurant in Nana to celebrate Dan’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Dan!

We’ll miss these guys!

Thinking of you all a lot with love and prayers! Flying through Japan reminds me of our trip to see you, going the opposite way. Happy flying and see you soon!

I hope you’re making a list of all the books you love reading to your kids b/c I’m going to ask you for it in a few years! The picture of the shortened paper chain and near-empty house behind it was very striking! So soon! Praying for you all!
