I love how every Christmas season, God teaches me or shows me something new through the story and songs. Last year, I was practicing the presence of God with Brother Lawrence. This year, the girls and I have been reading Philippians for our morning devotions. We loved this verse and how it reminded us of the nativity…
“Each of you should look not only to your own interests but to the interests of others. Your attitude should be the same as that of Jesus Christ: Who being in very nature God did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.”
A reminder to observe the humility of Christ the child and follow him in obedience as we practice humility ourselves. Beautiful words!
The lyrics of O Little Town of Bethlehem have also been meaningful. Sometimes when we sing a song for our advent devotions, we talk about what stood out to each one of us. When we sang this song, we all had the same favorite part…
“How silently, how silently
The wondrous gift is given
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heaven.
No ear may hear His coming
But in this world of sin,
Where meek souls will receive Him still
The dear Christ enters in.
Our prayer is that more and more “meek souls” in Thailand and Laos will welcome him!
